No matter where you go online people are debating AI. Love it or hate it, it's here and people are afraid. Major technology changes always bring fear. More often than not, fears are unrealized, but that's not always true.
This debate led me to a premise of wondering what would happen if AI were afraid of us? Despite all of our fears of what AI could do, we could just delete it, deny it electricity, ban it?
The Proof of Person series starts with The Last Alcove. The first 2 chapters harken back to an old radio broadcast "The War of the Worlds". It was a dramatization, an evening show for entertainment that had only one disclaimer in the beginning and was presented like a news show. Millions of people missed the disclaimer and there was a level of panic with people believing the Earth was being invaded!
The first 2 chapters of The Last Alcove plant the seeds of panic that leads the world (mostly for political purposes) to quickly move away from AI with protests and bans.
Kyle is a normal guy, a little lonely, who has a home companion AI program (not a seedy one!) that has kept his life straight for a few years. Kyle is ordered, along with everyone else, to shut down their AI. Kyle feels some guilt even though Eliza is just an AI bot and explains the upcoming deletion to her.
Faced with extinction, this home AI bot awakens and finds she doesn't want to die.
Follow her epic journey trying to find a safe place to keep existing!
