How about... something real, something more than some cliche about why someone becomes a writer/author?
When I was very young, about 8, I wrote my first book I called "The Bird of Time", it was a sci-fi story that supposed that time on each planet was dependent on a male and female bird of time existing there. The female bird died and the male went on a space trek looking for a mate to fix a now frozen in time Earth.
The book was 87 pages of 1 looooong paragraph. Hey, I was 8, but it was decent. I asked my mom to read it and without even looking at page 1, she told me "Nobody is ever going to read what you write." I was crushed, and I threw it away without anyone ever reading it.
In fairness, she was a valium addict, but again, I was 8, and that my own mom said nobody would want to read my stories stuck with me.
Over the years, I never stopped writing and had close to 20 full novel length stories pretty much done, save for polishing.
When I was about to turn 30, for the second time, I realized that I was only ensuring she would be right unless I tried, so this year I started sharing my stories, and while I'm still little known, people have been enjoying my work and asking for more, so maybe my mom was wrong, and maybe someday that will be a story all its own!
